Coachella is a production marvel. The stages, the art, the sheer scale of it — there is nothing that looks like Coachella. The headliners are consistently massive and the production values are the highest in the game. The problems are real though: the value equation is brutal, the crowd skews more toward being seen than hearing music, and the heat is punishing. Come for the spectacle, manage your expectations on the communal experience.

What You Need to Know
The Coachella app is non-negotiable. Download it before you leave home, register your wristband in it, and screenshot the map and set times so you have them offline. Cell service in Indio is notoriously spotty during peak hours — you will not be able to load anything when you need it most.
Coachella Valley is a real desert. Daytime temps hit 95–105°F and people genuinely underestimate it every year. Drink water constantly, not just when you're thirsty. Go back-of-the-line on porta-johns — walk past the first 20 stalls everyone uses and find a clean one in the back. Bring electrolyte packets, not just water.
The walk from the Sahara Tent to the Main Stage takes a solid 30 minutes when it's packed Saturday night — plan accordingly. The Do Lab is your best daytime escape from the heat: misting, shade, and surprise sets that don't appear on the main schedule. The Yuma Tent has air conditioning — remember this at 2pm on Sunday. Ride the Ferris wheel early morning on day one before the line becomes an hour wait.
If you're camping, campers get in and out all day — stock your tent with snacks, drinks, and layers before heading in. Desert nights drop fast and hard. You'll be sweating at 7pm and reaching for a hoodie by 10pm. Stake everything down and take down tarps before heading in — the Coachella Valley wind is no joke and will destroy an unstaked setup while you're watching a set.
Leave LA before 7am or go the night before — the I-10 to Indio on Coachella mornings can turn a 2.5 hour drive into 5+ hours. General parking is free. Drop a pin the second you park. Rideshare surge pricing runs $150-300 for short trips on festival days — the shuttle pass is worth it if you're not camping. The Indio Walmart runs low on supplies by Weekend 2 so stock up before you arrive.
Phone theft is real at Coachella. Set up Find My iPhone/Android before you leave home. A fanny pack with a tether or a zippered pocket with a safety pin is not overkill — it's standard veteran practice. Amex cardholders get access to the on-site Amex Experience lounge between the Mojave and Gobi stages — AC, charging stations, and a private merch lane.
This is Coachella's 25th anniversary edition. Karol G makes history as the first Latina headliner. Anyma premieres the "Aeden" project — a full production experience, not just a DJ set. Nine Inch Noize (NIN + Boys Noize collaborative set) is the underground pick of the weekend. Weekend 2 has historically had more relaxed energy and better resale availability — worth considering if you haven't locked in a weekend yet.
